Acceptable Use Policy

(District Employees)

Laurens School District 56 requires that all employees read and sign an Internet/Network/Computer Acceptable Use Agreement.

(Students)

In order for students to access the Internet on District 56 equipment, each student must read, sign, and have his/her Parent/Guardian and Teacher read and sign an Internet/Network/Computer/Cell Phone PEDAcceptable Use Agreement.

These Policies contains critical information applying to the use of Internet technology provided by the District.

Our Reason for Being

Technology Services' purpose is, of course, to enable employees and students in the District to make the most of their opportunities for teaching and learning. To that end, the Technology Department is constantly working on improving the tools used to realize the maximum benefit from not only the Internet experience, but any technology that we support.

We are all about helping people learn by using the best technology available. Students are asked to learn new skills to better prepare them for life and dealing with the everyday events they will encounter. Teachers are asked to give the students the opportunity to learn and develop those skills.

Our job is to provide the environment in which all this takes place, primarily, but not limited to, the use of computers.

Technology Services Vision

Laurens County School District 56 Technology Department has developed the following vision statement to guide its work in creating a five-year strategic plan for technology implementation: Laurens County School District 56 exists for the purpose of educating our students and to prepare students to be productive and caring adults. Within this context, we believe that technology is a tool for learning that expands our instructional repertoire and is the vehicle that maximizes the capacity of all teachers and learners. It is the vision of Laurens County School District 56 that students be engaged in a stimulating academic environment and a challenging curriculum that is student-centered and focused on inquiry-based learning. Specifically, we envision that technology is available and effectively supported for all students and staff:

• To provide global access to information • To meet the curricular needs of all learners • To provide access to the general curriculum • To refine critical thinking skills and foster creativity • To provide a medium for expression and communication • To collect, assess, and share performance information • To improve the effectiveness of administrative tasks • To provide skills and proficiencies necessary for the workforce

It is our intention that this vision will remain constant over the course of our plan and that it will guide the day-to-day and year-to-year implementation of technology across Laurens County School District 56.
