College and Career Field Experiences

On BIG (Because I'll Graduate) Day at CHS this year, every freshman had the opportunity to visit one college campus. We took groups to Presbyterian College, Southern Wesleyan, Erskine, Piedmont Tech, Wofford, Newberry, Converse, and North Greenville University.

Additionally, on Nov. 17, Cat Smith, CDF and Work-Based Learning Teacher and I took a group of Seniors to the Piedmont Tech Open House to view available majors and programs they may be interested in pursuing.

Check and Connect Mentoring: A System that Works

Check and Connect is an evidence-based nation-wide program that seeks to reduce drop out rates, tardies, referrals, and absences and increase student engagement through one-on-one meaningful relationships with an adult mentor.

SCEC After School Tutoring

get connected to free tutoring through scec!

This year, our district is proud to provide two hours of free after school tutoring twice a week in Math, Science, Social Studies, and ELA/English through the South Carolina Empowerment Centre (SCEC), an after school program housed at the former Bell Street School. Tutoring runs from 4:00-6:00 Monday and Thursday. Bus transportation is available from the middle and high schools, but transportation home is the student's responsibility.

The EEDA Transition Specialist works within the CHS guidance department to support the post-secondary programs already in place in our district and further encourage a college and career mindset in grades 8-12. The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate serves as a road map of what we are working toward for all graduates of Laurens 56 School District.
